Surfing the small web

Although this site is barely new and still almost empty, I have been consistently navigating the small (or indie?) web for some time now, reading random posts here and there, in the search for interesting personal sites.
It was (and still is) a reaction to mindless social media and also a search for some humanity in these times of AI-slop.
I wanted to read real opinions, experiences, no matter how trivial they were. I wanted to relate to them at a personal level.
The thing is, for a long time, I was also struggling with it in some sense. Every time I visited a post, I ended up opening way too many links, failing short to read those original posts, trying to catch up with everything (whatever everything is in this context) and feeling some FOMO as well.
I guess this is part of what social mediam and our current world in general, has done to us. Short-lived, fast-reactions. Everything should be instant. Everything should be now. Doesn’t matter what but now. Probably also facilitated by our own human nature that seeks for this kind of stimulus.
The bright side is that this has been much better later. When I land in a new personal site, I try to take the time to read a couple of posts from it, one after the other, and only later look into some of the references they might point to, or any of their blogroll recommendations as well. Better to find one “solid” thing that to get lost in many.
There is no longer (most of the time) that need to catch up.
It has become more and more naturally. An habit that didn’t grow naturally rather that I had to enforce to myself, and practice, somehow.
But it definetly pays off.
Sometimes I end up in a site that I have came across before and it’s such a nice sensation! Ah, I also know this place that you are recommending!
Will I ever write more consistently here? Maybe not, but I hope that I can still enjoy reading others for a long time, as it is one of the last things that I find to have any value in the web nowadays.
